What are the important things to do before renting out a vacation property? | |
And I don't mean how to decorate, but rather things like certificates, permits, insurance, legal docs, etc... things to avoid? Also perhaps anyone knows the best way to market it? I know there are a few websites out there that let you list a property and accept cc pmts, show calendars and so on. Whats the best one?
The property is in upstate NY.
Greately appreciated!

1Wow! I'm jealous! I've always dreamed of having a vacation home that I could rent out during the off season!!
First, I would contact my insurance company and ask about renter's insurance, then I would get assistance from my family lawyer about drawing up a renter's contract agreement (he's probably going to come up with stuff you've never even considered covering!)
As far as marketing it - I would contact the local Chamber of Commerce and see what they have to offer.
I would also look into a cleaning company that would take care of the place when folks leave -- sounds like a LOT of research, but I'm sure it'll be worth it knowing all your bases are covered. I wish you well in your new endeavor! God bless!
